A blanket of upper level high pressure now extends from Texas to California. Over the next 72 hours,, the high will link up with another high over the eastern Pacific and will build a ridge northward into the Pacific Northwest. At the surface, barometric pressure is a tad higher over the Great Basin that off shore, resulting in a weak off shore flow. The air aloft has certainly warmed up as the freezing level is now 15,500 feet. The marine layer is also becoming reestablished but is only 800 feet thick at Monterey. All of these factors will lead into a significant warming trend over the next few days. There is still enough relatively cool air for one more day of decent temperatures before we move into the 90s over the weekend and beyond. Longer term, models are showing a significant low off shore about a week from Wednesday, but for now late summer type weather is returning.
Forecast: Mostly clear skies through Tuesday. mostly clear skies will continue Tuesday night through Friday.

Two Week Outlook: September 30 through October 6: This model is showing a significant low off the northern and central California coast early in the period which could mean a precipitation threat. A southwest flow will continue so expect a continuation of above average temperatures..
October: This model is really a flip of the coin as far as precipitation is concerned and shows no real bias for above or below average rainfall. It does indicate somewhat above average temperatures will continue.
October, November, December: This model definitely has a bias for above average temperatures for the next 90 days. It also points to above average rainfall for northern California with below average precipitation for southern California. With that in mind, that gives California near average precipitation.
Wind Discussion: Winds during the late morning through the early morning hours will be variable to no more than 12 mph. winds during the night and early morning hours will be generally at or less than 5 mph with periods of near calm conditions through Monday.
Rain: Expect dry weather through the end of the month. There is some indication of a fairly strong low moving into northern and central California around October 3. For now, this is just something I want to watch.
Frost: All locations will be above freezing tonight and each night for the foreseeable future.
