September 26, 2022 report

September 26, 2022

A giant ridge of upper level high pressure extends from the Desert Southwest northward to western Canada and off shore of the Pacific Northwest. The high will dominate our pattern through Wednesday with temperatures soaring well above average. We will incrementally come down this week. a weak trough will move through Wednesday and Thursday in the Pacific Northwest, lowering temperatures into the low 90s by Friday. A weaker ridge will follow this system this weekend, lasting until another trough approaches the Pacific coast Wednesday of next week. a minimal amount of moisture from the  monsoon may sneak in as far north as the southern Sierra Nevada next Wednesday, allowing for the possibility of thunderstorms, but cloud cover is all we’ll see.

Forecast: Mostly clear skies through Thursday. mostly clear skies will continue Thursday night through Monday.

Two Week Outlook:  October 2 through October 8: This model is showing a significant low off the northern and central California coast early in the period which could mean a precipitation threat. A southwest flow will continue so expect a continuation of above average temperatures..

October:  This model is really a flip of the coin as far as precipitation is concerned and shows no real bias for above or below average rainfall. It does indicate somewhat above average temperatures will continue.

October, November, December: This model definitely has a bias for above average temperatures for the next 90 days. It also points to above average rainfall for northern California with below average precipitation for southern California. With that in mind, that gives California near average precipitation.

Wind Discussion:  Winds during the late morning through the early morning hours will be variable to no more than 12 mph. winds during the night and early morning hours will be generally at or less than 5 mph with periods of near calm conditions through Thursday.

Rain: Expect dry conditions for at least the next 7 to 10 days.

Frost:  All locations will be above freezing tonight and each night for the foreseeable future.
