September 30, 2022 report

September 30, 2022

The various features on this morning’s model information have changed very little over the past 24 hours, meaning our weather will change very little over the next several days. A ridge of high pressure covers the eastern Pacific Ocean with California parked on the eastern rim of the high while a weak upper low is situated over Idaho and Utah and it will move very little, as well. There won’t be much change in our weather over the next week to ten days. By Monday and Tuesday, the low will weaken further and will move into southern Canada, allowing the off shore ridge to move into the western US. This will result in a slow warming trend by the latter part of next week, but no excessive warming is anticipated. The air mass is very dry, so the combination of low humidity and temperatures in the 90s will make for excellent drying conditions. Today is the last day of the official rain fall season. It was another pitiful year with most locations receiving between a half and three quarters of an inch of normal.

Forecast: Mostly clear skies through Monday. Mostly clear skies will continue Monday night through Friday.

Two Week Outlook:  October 6 through October 12: This model doesn’t really give guidance for either above or below average rainfall, therefore the chance of rain will remain low. Temperatures will remain marginally above average.

October:  This model is really a flip of the coin as far as precipitation is concerned and shows no real bias for above or below average rainfall. It does indicate somewhat above average temperatures will continue.

October, November, December: This model definitely has a bias for above average temperatures for the next 90 days. It also points to above average rainfall for northern California with below average precipitation for southern California. With that in mind, that gives California near average precipitation.

Wind Discussion:  Winds during the late morning through the early morning hours will be variable to no more than 12 mph. winds during the night and early morning hours will be generally at or less than 5 mph with periods of near calm conditions through Monday.

Rain: Expect dry conditions for at least the next 7 to 10 days.

Frost:  All locations will be above freezing tonight and each night for the foreseeable future.
