The current weather pattern is spotted with small features that really don’t mean much. Feature one is a very weak cut off low off of northern Baja. There is also an upper air circulation over northern California. These two features are embedded within upper level high pressure over the west and east of the Pacific. The winds aloft are very light, favoring an easterly direction now. There is a limited amount of monsoon moisture working its way into southeast California. Enough of this mid and high level moisture may work its way up the Sierra Nevada for a minimal chance of isolated showers or thunderstorms over the back country. The marine layer is 1,400 feet deep this morning, but with a weak off shore flow there’s no possibility of a marine influx. A weak trough of low pressure will be over California by mid week and it should bring temperatures down to at least near seasonal averages, which are in the mid 80s by now. Beyond that, a big dome of high pressure shows up over the eastern Pacific and western US with a trough of low pressure east of the Rockies. This pattern will mean a continuation of dry weather and above average temperatures for at least the next 10 days.

Two Week Outlook: October 13 through October 19: This model continues to depict a dry pattern for central California. Late season monsoon moisture will continue to move into Arizona and New Mexico. It appears this moisture will be too far to the southeast to affect central California. Temperatures will remain above seasonal averages.
October: This model is really a flip of the coin as far as precipitation is concerned and shows no real bias for above or below average rainfall. It does indicate somewhat above average temperatures will continue.
October, November, December: This model definitely has a bias for above average temperatures for the next 90 days. It also points to above average rainfall for northern California with below average precipitation for southern California. With that in mind, that gives California near average precipitation.
Wind Discussion: Winds during the late morning through the early morning hours will be variable to no more than 12 mph. winds during the night and early morning hours will be generally at or less than 5 mph with periods of near calm conditions through Monday.
Rain: Expect dry conditions for the next 7 to 10 days.
Frost: All locations will be above freezing tonight and each night for the foreseeable future.
