The storm system which resulted in all that beautiful rain and mountain snow has moved northeastward into Montana. Behind the system is a rather robust northwest flow which will maintain below average temperatures through the upcoming weekend. A weak upper air disturbance will move out of the Gulf of Alaska Saturday then will move through northern California. It now looks like the region will remain dry as much of the upper air dynamics with this storm will slide into the Great Basin. A similar system, this one milder, will follow a similar path Monday. each of these systems will bring a chance of light snow showers over the higher elevations of the Sierra Nevada, but little else. Each time one of these systems moves through, another shot of relatively cold air will move overhead, keeping temperatures below average through the middle of next week.
Forecast: Partly cloudy this evening but remaining mostly cloudy in Kern County and southeastern Tulare County into Thursday morning. Areas of fog developing late. Mostly clear Thursday afternoon through Friday night with areas of night and morning fog and ow clouds, burning off into hazy afternoon sunshine. Mostly clear to possibly partly cloudy Saturday and on through Wednesday of next week with areas of night and morning fog and low clouds.

Wind Discussion: Winds during the night and morning hours will be generally at or less than 5 mph with periods of near calm conditions through Saturday. Winds during the late morning and afternoon hours will be generally less than 8 mph with periods of near calm conditions.
Rain: Expect dry conditions for the next 7 to 10 days.
Frost: The atmosphere will be relatively mixed tonight due to winds above the valley floor. These winds are running down the backside of low pressure over Montana. That, in conjunction with residual cloud cover and up slope clouds, will keep most locations in the mid to upper 30s tonight. However, a number of locations may tease with the freezing mark or even sink near to slightly below freezing in those areas that are relatively cloud free along with near calm winds. The very coldest locations may dip briefly into the upper 20s. Friday morning may actually turn out to be a degree or two colder as cloud cover will not be a factor, even in the southeastern portion of the valley. Only a degree or two of modification can be expected Saturday morning. It now appears a weak low that will be moving through northern California will not have much impact. Looking ahead for Monday through Wednesday, it appears a string of nights in the mid to upper 30s can be expected. Medium range models for next Thursday and Friday and beyond show the possibility of a modified arctic air mass moving into the northern Rockies, but for now it does not appear that it will affect the valley.
