Temperatures are around a degree or two warmer than yesterday, hovering in the comfortable low to mid 60s. the environment out there is slightly drier than it has been due to the Santa Ana winds in southern California the past couple of days. More on this in the frost discussion below. Also, mid and high level clouds are overrunning high pressure and are visible this afternoon. These clouds will be overhead much of the night, possibly exiting our region sometime after midnight. Overall, have just one variation on the blocking ridge pattern. strong upper level high pressure covers the eastern Pacific and the western 1/3 of the US. A big ridge extends north to Alaska. This high will be with us for the remainder of the week. it had at one time looked as though at least northern California would pick up rain early next week. as luck would have it, that possibility may be going out the window. So, we get back to the same old thing: areas of night and morning fog with hazy afternoon sunshine. At least since it refuses to rain, the temperatures are pleasant.
Forecast: Partly cloudy tonight. Mostly clear to occasionally partly cloudy Friday. Mostly clear Friday night through Monday. mostly clear to occasionally partly cloudy Monday night through Thursday.

Wind Discussion: Winds through early this evening will be out of the northwest at around 8 to 15 5mph with locally stronger gusts. Winds later tonight through Sunday will generally be at or less than 10 mph with periods of near calm conditions.
Rain: Expect dry weather forever and ever. Or so it seems. It looks like we have another long dry spell ahead of us. Some models are backing off on the chance of rain for later Monday and Tuesday and even the models for later this month which I’ve discussed the past couple of days are backing off on the chance of rain for late November and early December. So, all I can say is we need to pray for rain because right now it doesn’t appear to be in our future.
Frost: Even though temperatures are a degree or two warmer at midday, dew points have fallen into the mid to upper 30s throughout the district. This dryness is caused, in part, by the recent Santa Anas and we lost a lot of soil moisture. The bottom line is, the environment has a better ability to warm during the day but it also gives the atmosphere stronger radiational cooling. We do have some clouds streaming overhead this afternoon which are simply overrunning a dome of high pressure. These clouds should be out of here by midnight or a little after.
Coldest readings tonight will be in the 28 to 29 degree range in low lying terrain. Many locations will dip to 31 or 32. Hillsides should be above freezing. The inversion tonight will be decent with temperatures at 34 feet being 5 to 8 degrees warmer at most locations. Expect similar readings the next couple of nights. With this environment, nights will be cold but days will be pleasant.
Looking ahead, there’s no chance of rain for the next seven to ten days, at least, meaning we’ll have to deal with drier soil. But on the other hand, there’s no pattern on the short or medium terms that would result in a hard freeze.
