Rain is widespread throughout the valley as of this hour. A very strong and moisture laden winter storm is making a bee line for central California. Satellite imagery depicts a wide swath of moisture moving into central California with a trail of subtropical moisture feeding into the storm. ei will result in heavy precipitation with one to three inches on the valley floor, four to seven inches of rain in the foothills, and eight to ten inches of water equivalent over the high Sierra. Here’s a mind blower: ten to twelve feet of new snow is expected above 8.000 feet. The precipitation will continue through Tuesday night. There are also very tightly wound isobars around the center of the low which is off the northern California coast with higher pressure over southern California and the Desert Southwest. This will generate strong, gusty southeast winds in many areas, especially along the west side where 30 to 40 mph gusts are anticipated. We may have as much as 72 hours of rain free weather coming up from Wednesday through Friday as a weak ridge upwells ahead of the next system. The weekend system will take a different path than its predecessors. Models continue to indicate much of the energy will flow into southern California and the Desert Southwest. And guess what? Another system will arrive around Tuesday of next week.
