A great deal of high clouds are streaming over central California from a low center off the northern California coast. These clouds may be dense enough to hold temperatures tonight a tad above what we earlier expected. That same low will drift slowly southward parallel to the coast, eventually moving inland through northern Baja Sunday and Monday of next week. this system will remain too far off shore to spread precipitation into California. Meanwhile, a protective shield of high pressure will remain over California and the Pacific Northwest for a continuation of dry weather through at least Tuesday night. Models continue to indicate a cold, wet pattern beginning Wednesday of next week. by Thursday, a large Gulf of Alaskan low will drop into the US with widespread shower activity. Models are also indicating the possibility of a prolonged period of on and off wet weather the second half of next week. even the two week outlook out this afternoon is pointing to an active weather pattern with below average temperatures.
Forecast: Variable lhigh cloudiness at times through Friday. Mostly clear to occasionally partly cloudy Friday night through Saturday. Mostly clear Saturday night through Tuesday. Increasing cloudiness Tuesday night. Showers likely Wednesday and at times through Thursday.

Wind Discussion: Winds will be variable to no more than 10 mph with periods of near calm conditions through Sunday.
Rain: Dry weather will continue through Tuesday night. Models continue to show the likelihood of the beginning of a possible prolonged period of active weather beginning Wednesday. A large low will drop out of the Gulf of Alaska and will eventually cover most of the western US. It’s too early to tell how much precipitation will benefit our region, but typically this type of system results in significant snow fall over the Sierra Nevada. Even the ten day and two week outlooks are picking up on this trend with on and off active weather the first few days of March.
Frost: The wild card tonight will be the potential density of high clouds streaming overhead from a low center off the northern California coast. If these clouds remain dense enough, lows tonight could be a tad warmer than indicated on the morning report. Still, just to play it safe, we’ll forecast temperatures mostly in the lower 30s with the coldest river bottom like locations dipping into the upper 20s. Models actually show less cloud cover for Saturday morning when temperatures could be a or two colder due to clearing skies. Dew points are generally in the mid 20s to the lower 30s this afternoon. However, air temperatures have risen into the mid 50s, generally 5 or 6 degrees warmer than 24 hours ago.. temperatures by Sunday will moderate into the low to mid 30s. By midweek, we will be moving into an active weather pattern, resulting in above freezing temperatures.
