For the second morning in a row, frost is on the ground. Coldest readings on the valley floor are down near 30. Moderation will begin to take place today as most locations will warm into the mid 60s. weak upper level high pressure is building in from the west and it will allow temperatures to push into the lower 70s Thursday and Friday. A weak trough of  low pressure will push through the northern half of California Thursday night and Friday. Light showers will be possible to a Monterey/Merced/Yosemite line with dry conditions to the south. Over the Easter weekend, a stronger high will build over the west, pushing readings into the mid to upper 70s and near 80 by Monday. the next trough of low pressure will move inland late Monday and Tuesday for the next cooling trend. However, low 70s will still be possible by mid week.

 

Forecast: Mostly clear skies through Thursday. Variable cloudiness Thursday night and Friday with a slight chance of sprinkles near Merced. Partly cloudy Friday night. Mostly clear Saturday through Sunday. Partly cloudy Monday through Tuesday. Becoming mostly clear Wednesday.

Two Week Outlook:  April 11 through April 18: This model shows the return of an active pattern with a colder northwest flow, resulting in below average temperatures. The risk of showers will also be higher.

 

April:  This model is showing a dominant westerly flow during the month, resulting in below average temperatures. The main storm track will be through the Pacific Northwest and the northern one-fourth of California. Central California is just south of that zone with predicted near average precipitation.

 

April, May, June:  The 90 day outlook calls for generally near to below average precipitation as we head into the dry season. The model doesn’t swing in either direction regarding temperatures, calling for near average temperatures.

 

Wind Discussion: Winds will be mainly out of the northwest this afternoon at no more than 10 mph, diminishing this evening. Winds later tonight through Saturday will be mainly out of the northwest afternoons and evenings at 5 to 15 mph. during the night and morning hours, winds will generally be no more than 7 mph with periods of near calm conditions..

 

Rain Discussion:  There is a slight chance of sprinkles Thursday night and Friday. Otherwise, dry conditions will prevail through at least the middle of next week.

 

Frost Discussion.  Coldest readings as of 5:00 this morning were 29 at Sanger, 30 at Cutler, Exeter,  and Lindsay. Most other locations ranged between 32 and 36. Tonight, only the coldest low spots will reach into the lower 30s. otherwise most locations will range between 34 and 38 degrees. A much milder pattern will begin Friday with above freezing conditions at least through the middle of next week and more than likely beyond.
