April 20, 2023 report

April 20, 2023 am

Summary: The trough of low pressure which resulted in readings mostly in the mid 60s Wednesday has already shifted eastward into the Rocky Mountain region with the parent low sitting over the Dakotas. Upper level high pressure southwest of the central coast is building east and northeast into the west and will begin a significant warming trend beginning today. Widespread low to mid 70s can be expected this afternoon, near 80 on Friday, and the low to mid 80s Saturday through Monday. a weak trough will move into the Pacific Northwest Sunday night and Monday with virtually no impact on central California other than to lower temperatures by perhaps one or two degrees. Models show an even stronger high moving into the western US Wednesday through Friday. This system could raise temperatures into the mid to upper 80s for the first time this spring. I’m not ready to mention 90 quite yet, but it is something we’ll watch for during the latter part of next week and next weekend. Some models show a fairly significant low off the Oregon/northern California coast in early May for a cool down and possibly even a chance of showers. We’ll watch this over the next week or so.

Forecast: Mostly clear through Sunday. Mostly clear Sunday night through Thursday.
