Summary: Most locations topped the century mark yesterday. Similar readings can be expected this afternoon and Friday afternoon. Currently, an oval shaped upper high stretches from Texas westward to off the southern California coast. A dangerous heat wave will begin Saturday as the high strengthens and builds into the Pacific Northwest. By Sunday and Monday, the high will be right over central California, pushing temperatures to near record values. Hot spots will be near the 110 degree mark. Some models push temperatures to 112 in Bakersfield and Fresno with readings of 108 to 111 elsewhere. The high will shift back towards the Four Corners region by Tuesday, allowing temperatures to fall back to the 99 to 103 range Wednesday through Friday. We may see a minimal amount of monsoonal moisture rotate around the edge of the high this weekend which may allow a few thunderstorms over the high country.
Forecast: Mostly clear and hot through Friday. Mostly clear and extremely hot Saturday through Tuesday mostly clear and hot Wednesday through Thursday.

Two Week Outlook: July 19 through July 25: This model indicates the typical summertime high will be over the Desert Southwest and California. This pattern will maintain above average temperatures with very dry conditions prevailing.
July: Typically, this time of year there is absolutely nothing going on in the world of weather. Temperature forecasts are u main forecast challenge. For now, the usual dry conditions will prevail with temperatures near to marginally above average
July, August, September: The monsoon into the Desert Southwest and occasionally California is what we carefully watch this time of year, especially during August and September. This model is currently showing below average precipitation over Arizona and New Mexico. This indicates there will be less of a chance of the monsoon visiting California this summer. Temperature are expected to range above average.
Wind Discussion: Winds during the late evening through the morning hours will generally be at or less than 8 mph with periods of near calm conditions. During the afternoon and evening, winds will be generally at or less than 15 mph with locally stronger gusts through Tuesday.
Rain Discussion: Expect dry conditions for at least the next week.
