August 3, 2023
Summary It’s a rather refreshing morning out there as temperatures were only in the mid 50s to low 60s as of 5:00am. A strong push of marine air over the past 24 hours lowered temperatures into the upper 80s to the lower 90s yesterday which is the coolest we’ve seen in more than 6 weeks. The latest surface observation in the Delta was showing winds out of the southwest at 20mph, gusting to 25, indicating the valley’s air conditioning vent is still wide open. Highs in the upper 80s to the lower 90s can be expected today and again Friday. Currently, the upper high which has been so prevalent this summer is centered over eastern Texas and extends westward into Arizona while a weak trough of low pressure remains along the west coast. The trough will be the more dominant player in our weather through Friday. The high will then expand once more to the west coast, shutting off the marine machine and allowing temperatures to war to seasonal averages Saturday then marginally above average Sunday through Tuesday. The weather for later next week appears to be fairly seasonal with no dominant low or high pressure system to govern our weather. Just a reminder. this is hurricane seasonal and we have a well developed hurricane well to the southwest of Cabo San Lucas. Hurricane Dora has maximum sustained winds of 130 mph. It’s moving to the west at 17 mph.
Forecast Clear skies through Sunday. Mostly clear Sunday night through Thursday.

Two Week Outlook: August 10 through August 16: This model is indicating high pressure over the Desert Southwest will become more dominant during this time frame. temperatures will be somewhat above average with dry conditions continuing.
July: Typically, this time of year there is absolutely nothing going on in the world of weather. Temperature forecasts are the main forecast challenge. For now, the usual dry conditions will prevail with temperatures near to marginally above average
July, August, September: The monsoon into the Desert Southwest and occasionally California is what we carefully watch this time of year, especially during August and September. This model is currently showing below average precipitation over Arizona and New Mexico. This indicates there will be less of a chance of the monsoon visiting California this summer. Temperatures are expected to range above average.
Wind Discussion: During the late morning through the late evening hours, winds will be out of the northwest at 8 to 15 mph with local gusts to 20 mph through Sunday. During the night and early morning hours, winds will be mainly out of the northwest at 5 to 10 mph with locally stronger gusts.
Rain Discussion: Expect dry conditions for at least the next week.

At John Hibler Weather Forecasting, it is our goal to provide the most accurate forecasts available. Weather forecasting, unlike any other business, invites errors. Weather, by nature, is chaotic. It is our goal to be as accurate as humanly possible.
