Summary Upper level high pressure stretches from Texas to California this morning. A bubble of warm, subsiding air is currently above California. The latest sounding above Vandenburg AFB indicated a freezing level all the way up to 17, 300 feet while the marine layer has been crushed down to 1,000 feet. Temperatures will peak in the 100 to 105 degree range today then trend lower Tuesday and Wednesday. Expect mid to upper 90s Tuesday and Wednesday then down into the low to mid 90s Thursday and Friday. There is a minor wild card out there which comes in the form of weakening tropical storm Eugene. Eugene is currently about 300 miles west of Baja. By midday Wednesday, the remnants of Eugene will be roughly 300 miles southwest of San Diego. A southwest flow aloft will tap into what’s left of Eugene. Some of this moisture will move over central California Wednesday and Thursday, possibly resulting in partly cloudy skies from time to time and a chance of afternoon and evening thunderstorms over the Sierra Nevada and maybe even over the Kern County mountains. No precipitation is expected over the valley floor. temperatures will warm back up into the century mark by early next week.
Forecast Clear skies through Tuesday morning. Mostly clear to occasionally partly cloudy Tuesday afternoon through Saturday. Mostly clear Sunday through Monday.

Two Week Outlook: August 14 through August 30 This model points to hot weather over the Pacific Northwest and northern California with above average temperatures over the remainder of California. Expect a chance of isolated thunderstorms over the Sierra Nevada. Otherwise, dry conditions will prevail.
August: This model indicates temperatures over the next 30 days will be near to slightly above seasonal averages. Dry weather will continue, although we will have to keep a watchful eye to the south for possible tropical activity.
August, September, October: This model shows above average temperatures for much of the west, particularly the Desert Southwest. It also points to below average precipitation over the Desert Southwest, possibly meaning a less active monsoon season. The chance of precipitation for central California appears to be near average.
Wind Discussion: Winds will be mainly out of the northwest afternoons through late evening at 8 to 15 mph through tonight. Winds Tuesday through Thursday will be mainly out of the northwest at 8 to 15 mph. Gusts to 25 mph will be possible through Thursday, mainly along the Interstate 5 corridor but locally elsewhere.
