Summary Mainly mid and high level moisture from tropical storm Jova continues to be entrained in a southwesterly flow aloft above the southern half of California. Embedded within this flow are pockets of convection which have set off sprinkles and even isolated showers and thunderstorms. As expected, rainfall amounts have been rather scant. Madera has received .04, Porterville .03, and Reedley .01. the bulk of the moisture will move over the south valley over the first half of the day today then dry out some this afternoon, though it will be uncomfortably humid. Models continue to track moisture over southern California Monday and Tuesday with mostly clear to partly cloudy skies over central California. Temperatures will continue to be in the mid to upper 90s this afternoon then level off into the mid 90s Monday and Tuesday. From midweek one, a trough of low pressure will move into the western US with a dry westerly flow aloft. With some luck, temperatures will fall back into the lower 90s Wednesday through Saturday. Models are having a more difficult time on the placement of a ridge of high pressure early next week which may result in 100 plus degree weather. We’ll get a better grip on this as we head into mid week.
Forecast Mostly cloudy this morning with a chance of sprinkles or isolated light showers and thunderstorms, mainly in Kern County. Partly cloudy and humid this afternoon. Mostly clear to occasionally partly cloudy through Tuesday.
Temperatures: High temperatures today will range in the upper 90s then fall back into the mid 90s Monday and Tuesday. Lows tonight will cool into the mid to upper 60s but into the mid to upper 70s in Kern County.
