January 25, 2024 report

January 25, 2024

Summary: The valley is blanketed with a layer of low clouds. There are also pockets of ground fog. Both Lemoore and Hanford were reporting less than ¼ mile visibility. Other locations have a low overcast based between 1,100 and 1,600 feet. Today will begin a five to six day stretch of dry weather. We currently find ourselves on the far eastern rim of upper level high pressure building off shore. That high will slowly build eastward and form a warm air inversion above the valley floor. with plenty of ground moisture from recent storms, extensive fog and/or low clouds will be the main weather challenges through next week. models actually show record highs in the valley by Monday or Tuesday of next week. However, that will not be the case if fog and low clouds take over. For several days now, models have been pointing to the time frame of February 2 through February 7. Models this morning show a possible series of storms with an atmospheric river forming. Should this occur, substantial precipitation could potentially fall.

Forecast: Extensive night and morning fog and low clouds. Otherwise it will be mostly clear to possibly partly cloudy through Tuesday of next week. a chance of rain Wednesday through Thursday.
