Summary Currently, there is a low pressure system located about 400 miles off the northern California coast. This low is forecast to be just west of the Golden Gate by midday today. Light showers are possible today but the main event will arrive tonight as this will be a coastal hugger. The center of circulation will be near the Channel Islands by midday Sunday. Our best chance of significant precipitation from this event will be tonight into the early morning hours Sunday. High pressure will begin to build into northern California Monday. This high promises to be the dominant player through Wednesday. Our next chance of measurable rain will be around Thursday of next week as another closed low slides southeastward through California. This looks like a fairly weak system so for now just light amounts of precipitation can be expected.
Forecast Mostly cloudy today with a chance of light showers. Rain becoming likely tonight, continuing through Saturday. A chance of showers and isolated thunderstorms Saturday afternoon. Becoming partly cloudy Sunday. Variable cloudiness Sunday night. becoming mostly clear Monday through Wednesday night. increasing cloudiness Thursday leading to a chance of showers Friday.

Two Week Forecast: April 5 through April 10: This model shows a rather robust flow into California. Energy from the northeast Pacific moves into California from time to time. The chance of rain is relatively high during this period with below average temperatures.
Thirty Day Report: If this model has much credence, rainfall will remain above average, especially in northern and central California, stretching into the interior west. Temperatures however, look to be marginally below average.
Ninety Day Report: This model indicates near to marginally above average rainfall over the next three months. Equal chances are given for temperatures being above or below average.
Winds: Winds today will be mainly out of the northwest, increasing to 8 to 15 mph this afternoon. Winds tonight through Saturday will be mainly out of the east to southeast at 10 to 20 mph. gusts to 35 mph are possible along the west side and especially along the Interstate 5 corridor. There is a chance of strong gusty winds in the extreme south valley Friday and Friday night with gusts of 50 mph possible near the base of the Tehachapi Mountains. These winds will diminish to around 10 to 20 mph Saturday. Winds Saturday night and Sunday will be mainly out of the northwest at 5 to 12 mph.
Rain: there’s quite a bit of virga, or rain falling but not reaching the ground. Even so, sprinkles or light showers are possible today, however the main event will occur Saturday night and Sunday morning. rain will spread in from the west/northwest this afternoon and evening. This storm will have a considerable amount of wind energy, meaning rain shadows will develop in Kern County and along the west side. Rainfall amounts from today through Saturday could end up totalling between ½ and 1 inch along the east side of the valley north of Porterville. Along the west side, anywhere from 1/3 to 2/3 of an inch is possible and over the valley portion of Kern County around ¼ is likely. Dry weather returns Sunday and will continue through at least Thursday of next week. the next system is due Friday with a chance of light showers
