Summary A fairly strong ridge of high pressure will continue to result in well above average temperatures and mostly clear skies through Friday. However, a low pressure system continues to gain strength in the northeast Pacific and will drop southward to a position off the northern California coast Friday evening and will be off the central California coast Saturday. With the low in this position, it will be very favorable for it to pinwheel bands of showers inland through Saturday night as a pool of cold unstable air moves above the valley Saturday afternoon. Thunderstorms will develop, a few of which could be quite strong. High resolution computer models continue to indicate between a quarter and one-half inch of rain is possible between Friday night and midday Sunday. Models show another low dropping southward from western Canada and into the Pacific Northwest Tuesday and Wednesday. No rain is expected from this system, however it will keep the lid on temperatures, preventing them from rising too far from average.
Forecast Mostly clear skies through Friday and continued very warm. Increasing clouds Friday night. periods of showers Saturday. Showers likely Saturday night with a decreasing chance of showers Sunday morning. There will be a chance of thunderstorms Saturday afternoon and evening. Partly cloudy Sunday afternoon through Monday. mostly clear to occasionally partly cloudy Monday through Thursday.

Two Week Forecast: April 19 through April 25: This model is indicating a fairly dominant ridge of high pressure will be over California. The chance of rain appears to be very low during this period while temperatures will be above average.
Thirty Day Report: This model gives equal chances of above and below average temperatures for the month of April. The chance of precipitation is slightly above average for the month.
Ninety Day Report: As we enter the dry season, this model predicts precipitation will be above or below average. There is no real trend to grab onto, so temperatures are expected to be near seasonal average.
Winds: Winds will be generally at or less than 8 mph with periods of near calm conditions through Friday. By Friday evening, winds will pick up out of the southwest at 10 to 20 mph with stronger gusts. Winds Saturday through Sunday will be mainly out of the northwest at 10 to 20 mph. Gusts to near 30 mph are possible near thunderstorms. Winds Sunday night and Monday be generally at or less than 10 mph with periods of near calm conditions.
Rain: Dry weather will continue through Friday. The chance of showers will begin to increase by late Friday night in Merced County then will spread southward by Saturday morning. The chance of measurable rain from late Friday night through Monday night is high. Models place an eastern Pacific low just off the central coast Saturday afternoon and evening. The counterclockwise circulation around the low will cause bands of showers to pinwheel inland as a cold pool of unstable air moves overhead Saturday afternoon and evening. Thunderstorm development will be possible. Rainfall amount Friday night through Sunday morning should average somewhere between one-quarter and one-half inch. Dry weather will return by Sunday afternoon and will continue through at least the middle of next week
