Summary:After a brief respite, summer returns to the San Joaquin Valley today, although no triple digits are expected through at least Friday. The low pressure system that resulted in the mild temperatures yesterday, has morphed into a broad area of low pressure which now stretches from western Canada southeastward through Colorado. California is essentially sandwiched between this low and the eastern Pacific high just off shore. This puts us in a dry, northwesterly flow aloft. Temperatures will climb through Wednesday, ending up in the mid to upper 90s then will fall back a bit Thursday and Friday as a weak trough of low pressure skirts northern California.
Over the weekend, strong upper level high pressure over Texas will retrograde into the Four Corners region. This will usher in the monsoon season over at least parts of Arizona as the clockwise flow around the high begins to drag up subtropical moisture from Mexico. Temperatures this weekend and early next week will be determined by how far west this high expands. No monsoonal moisture is anticipated at this time as the winds over central California will remain southwesterly, sandwiched between the southwestern high and persistent low pressure over the Pacific Northwest.
Forecast: Clear skies through Friday. Clear skies will continue Friday night through Tuesday.

Two Week Outlook: July 7 through July 13: This model is indicating a fairly typical summer pattern with high pressure dominating over the eastern Pacific, extending over California into the Desert Southwest. Temperatures will be marginally above average with typical dry conditions continuing.
July: This model indicates warmer than average temperatures over the next four weeks. The usual dry pattern will prevail in the San Joaquin Valley with the chance of precipitation on any given day being almost nil. Average precipitation for the month is .01.
July, August, September: This time of year, the 90 day out look is no secret. July and August will be hot and dry while September has a minor risk of precipitation, mainly from the tropics. This out look appears fairly typical. Marginally above average temperatures are expected with near average precipitation, which is a meaningless projection.
Winds Discussion: During the afternoons and evenings, winds will be mostly out of the northwest at around 5 to 12 MPH. During the night and morning hours, winds will generally range between 3 and 7 MPH with periods of calm conditions.
