Summary: The shallow intrusion of marine air into the valley yesterday has come to a close. Even though the marine layer still stands at roughly 1,900 feet, winds at Travis Air Force Base are out of the southwest at just 13 MPH.
Upper level high pressure remains over the Desert Southwest westward into southern California while a weak trough of low pressure remains over northern and central California. Well to our south, we have two named tropical storms to keep an eye on. Storm number one is named Hernan and is expected to move northeastward into the southern Baja peninsula Saturday . Storm number two is Iselle. Iselle will drift off the southern Baja coast over the weekend. Some of this moisture will creep northward into southeast California and Arizona, however with that weak baggy trough of low pressure remaining overhead, a continuation of southwesterly winds aloft will prevent this tropical juice from moving into central California.
In the medium term, by the middle of next week, upper level high pressure off the coast of the Pacific Northwest will elongate southeastward into California. This will allow temperatures to climb to near the century mark next week, at least at the warmer locations. So, as we end up August and move into September, near to marginally above average temperatures will continue under clear skies with poor air quality.
Forecast: Mostly clear skies through Monday night. Mostly clear Tuesday through Friday.

Two Week Outlook: September 2 through September 8: This model indicates a dominant ridge of high pressure will be along the west coast for, what else, above average temperatures. The flow aloft is projected to be mainly southwesterly for dry conditions.
September: This model is indicating basically the western half of the United States will have above average temperatures, continuing the trend of the summer season into the early fall. This model shows near average precipitation, which is minimal at best anyway.
September, October, November: This model always indicates above average temperatures for the western U.S. and this time around is no exception. As we head into the autumn season this model is indicating there will be equal chances of above or below precipitation.
Winds Discussion: Winds through Monday will be mainly out of the northwest at 5 to 12 MPH afternoons and evenings and 3 to 6 MPH nights and early mornings with periods of near calm conditions.
Rain Discussion: Expect dry conditions for the next 7 to 10 days.
Afternoon Dew Points Today: Low to mid 50s. Kern: Mid to upper 40s.
