September 11, 2021

Temperatures at this hour are anywhere from 8 to 13 degrees cooler than 24 hours ago.  A push of modified marine air moved down the valley and it will lower temperatures down into the mid 90s the next couple of days.  This is still above average.  The freezing level taken over Oakland a few hours ago was 16,300 feet, indicating high pressure is once again becoming reestablished.   The marine layer, which deepened to 2,500 feet yesterday has peeled back to near 1200 feet this morning.

A zone of upper level high pressure will stretch from the southeast US westward into southern California by Monday.  Inland sections of southern California will remain hot with marginally above average temperatures for northern and central California.  By the middle of next week, a high center will become established just off shore.  Models for after Thursday diverge a bit, but the majority are leaning towards a trough of low pressure moving through by next weekend, possibly leading to a more substantial cool down.

Forecast:   Mostly clear skies through Tuesday.  Mostly clear Tuesday night through Saturday.

Two Week Outlook:  September 17 through 23:  This model indicates a trough of low pressure will dominate most of the western US, including California.  Temperatures will begin to fall to near to even marginally below average, however precipitation will continue to be unlikely.

September:  This model indicates high pressure will be dominant over the desert southwest and California.  The chance for precipitation will remain very low.  Temperatures will be marginally above average.

September, October, November: If this model has any credence, the dominant pattern of the summer will continue.  Expect temperatures to be marginally above average as we head into fall.  Precipitation will generally be below average, although the chance will begin to increase as we head into November.

Winds Discussion:  Winds during the afternoon and evening will be mainly out of the northwest at 5 to 12 mph.  Winds during the night and morning hours will be generally less than 7 MPH with periods of near calm conditions through Tuesday.

Rain: Expect dry conditions for the next seven to possibly ten days.
