Strong upper level high pressure is slowly drifting eastward and will incrementally allow temperatures to drop. For today, however, triple digits will again be the order of the day as the marine layer along the coast remains shallow. For the fourth day in a row, it’s pegged at 1,000 feet. The air aloft continues to be very summer like. The temperature at 4:00am at Sandberg at an elevation of 4,100 feet was 72 degrees. You have to go all the way up to 16,100 feet to find the freezing level. Again, though, the pattern is changing as a trough of low pressure just west of the Washington coast will extend southward into northern California over the weekend. The marine layer will respond accordingly and will move down the valley Friday through Sunday, eventually lowering temperatures to below average over the weekend and into the first three days of next week. by Wednesday, the high will again migrate towards the Four Corners region with California on the far western flank of the high. This will allow temperatures to rise to above average again by later next week.
Forecast: Clear and hot through Thursday. Clear skies Thursday night through Wednesday with a slow cooling trend.
