January 23, 2023
Conditions are almost identical to yesterday afternoon at this time. Gone is the morning fog, revealing hazy sunshine for the entire valley. Just like current conditions, the big picture for the weather over the western US is little changed with a low pressure system moving through the Pacific Northwest and a large high right along the Pacific coast. The high will nudge slowly inland over the next 72 hours. The changes will be gradual with perhaps one degree of warming each day over the next several days. By the time we reach the weekend, warmer locations will be approaching the 60 degree mark. The only real change, though it is also fairly minor, is the fact that the GFS model is again showing rain as far south as central California, this time around February 2. On paper, this looks to be a one storm event rather than a series then we should move right back into a dry pattern. the best course of action for the short term forecast is to go with areas of dense fog during the later night and morning hours with hazy afternoon sunshine. Since there isn’t a great deal of complexities in the longer term outlook, we will simply forecast an almost identical projection to those of the past few day.
Forecast: Outside of areas of night and morning fog and low clouds, it will be mostly clear through Friday with hazy afternoon sunshine. Mostly clear skies will continue Friday through Monday with areas of night and morning fog and low clouds.

Wind Discussion: Winds will be generally at or less than 7 mph late mornings and afternoons and variable in nature. winds during the night and morning hours will be light with extended periods of near calm conditions through Friday.
Rain: Expect dry weather for the next week to possibly ten days.
Frost: Conditions are nearly the same at mid day as they were yesterday and the day before at the same time. Warmer locations have risen into the low 50s and will top out in the mid 50s this afternoon. Coldest locations tonight will again visit the upper 20s for short durations with most locations ranging from 29 to 33 and hillsides remaining above freezing. The inversion tonight will again be strong with temperatures at 34 feet generally 4 to 8 degrees warmer at most locations. High pressure will slowly increase in strength over the next 72 hours. This will result in perhaps a degree or two of warming each day, mainly during the afternoon hours and perhaps every other day for morning lows. At any rate, with strong radiational cooling, widespread frost with blanket the citrus belt. Longer terms there’s nothing to suggest a harmful pattern coming up.
