Summary: Temperatures over the higher elevations are generally running 2 to 4 degrees warmer than 24 hours ago. On the valley floor, readings are 5 to 7 degrees warmer. The freezing level has risen roughly 1,000 feet since yesterday at this time and is currently 14,000 feet above Oakland. The marine layer along the coast, for the first time in nearly a week, is below 3,000 feet. In fact, the latest reading out of Monterey indicates the marine layer is roughly 1,800 feet. All of this are signs of an impending heat wave. Strong upper level high pressure is building in from the west and is replacing the trough that kept readings pleasantly mild for the past week and a half. Hottest locations will push the century mark this afternoon then peak Saturday and Sunday afternoons as the center of the high moves overhead. By Monday, the high will slide southeastward to a position over Arizona and will begin to weaken on the Fourth of July. Even so, triple digits can be expected through at least Wednesday of next week. hottest locations may eclipse the 110 degree mark Saturday and Sunday. A trough of low pressure will move into the Pacific Northwest and northern California by Thursday, finally nudging temperatures below the century mark through the coming weekend. The first hurricane of the eastern Pacific hurricane season is now on the map. Hurricane Adrian is well to the south of Cabo san Lucas and will move harmlessly into cooler waters over the weekend and will fizzle out there. Still no real sign of the monsoon beginning as so far the main high center, which is the main factor in the monsoon season, has been farther south and east so far, blocking potential tropical moisture from moving northward.

Two Week Outlook: July 5 through July 11: This model indicates a weak trough of low pressure will be along the west coast. Typically this pattern allows modified marine air to move down the valley. This should keep temperatures near to moderately below average with dry conditions continuing.
June: Of course, this time of year, 30 and 90 day outlooks are virtually useless as they’re essentially the same every year. Basically, light all day and hot and dark all night and warm. Essentially for June, near average temperatures and dry.
June, July, August: The 90 day summary outlook is the same this year as it is every year. Generally dry with somewhat above average temperatures. The monsoon season hasn’t begun yet, so we’ll start taking that more seriously down the road.
Wind Discussion: Winds during the afternoon through the late evening hours will be out of the northwest at 8 to 15 mph. locally stronger gusts are possible from the late morning through the late evening hours through Sunday.
Rain Discussion: Expect dry conditions for at least the next week.
