February 23, 2018
Frost Update: As of 10:00pm, the coldest readings so far were 28 at Navalencia, 29 at west Porterville, and a number of locations between 30 and 32 with a few still in the mid 30s. the fact that the coldest locations are already reaching the 28 degree threshold means durations over 8 hours will occur tonight in the coldest locations. Therefore, it does seem plausible that as the atmosphere settles, many locations will fall into the mid to upper 20s with coldest locations down to 23 to 25.
Skies will remain generally clear for the remainder of the night with light winds with the possible exception of the west side which may observe a northwesterly wind of 5 to 10 MPH. As expected, the upslope clouds in Kern County and southeastern Tulare County have dissipated. With this in mind, it appears lows in Kern County will also fall into the 26 to 30 degree range but possibly milder in some locations due to wind conditions.
