June 7, 2019/report

June 7, 2019

Summary: Temperatures this morning are running anywhere from 9 to 15 degrees cooler than 24 hours ago with most locations dropping into the low to mid 50s.  the coolest I could find in ag areas was 49 at Sanger.  Low to mid 80s can be expected this afternoon after the lower 100s just day before yesterday.  The catalyst for this suddenly pleasant weather is a low center in southern British Columbia with a weak trough extending southward into northern and central California.  The only sky cover from this system is a swath of high clouds associated with the jet stream over north/central California.

As quickly as this cool down occurs, hot weather will return.  By Saturday morning, the low will be centered over Montana as upper level high pressure over the eastern Pacific begins to make its move into the western U.S.  Temperatures will remain marginally below average Saturday as the relatively mild air begins to mix out.  Temperatures will jump into the mid to upper 90s Sunday with triple digits becoming a way of life Monday through Wednesday.  No excessively hot weather is expected with generally lower 100s, which is common this time of year.

A meager cool down will begin about Thursday of next week as a weak trough moves inland through the Pacific Northwest.  Medium range  models are indicating typically dry conditions will continue with marginally above average temperatures.

Forecast: Mostly clear skies through Monday.  Mostly clear Monday night through Friday.

Two Week Outlook: June 13 through June 19:  This model is showing a stronger ridge of upper level high pressure over the eastern Pacific and western U.S.  As a result, above average temperatures can be expected with little, to any, chance of precipitation.

June: The first month of meteorological summer indicates temperatures will only be marginally above average over northern and central California.  In other words, patterns for early summer should be fairly typical.  The usual generally dry conditions will prevail.

June, July, August: If this model has any grip at all on the pattern for summer of 2019, it is the fact that it will be a hot one, even hotter than usual.  As a more persistent ridge remains over the west and lower pressure over the middle of the country the usual generally dry conditions will prevail.

Winds:  Winds will be mainly out of the  northwest through this evening at 10 to 20 MPH at times with local gusts to 30 MPH possible, mainly along the west side.  Later this evening, winds will diminish to 5 to 10 MPH.  Winds Saturday through Monday will be generally at or less than 15 MPH.

Rain: Expect dry conditions for at least the next seven to ten days.
