June 12, 2019
Summary: Another hot one is on tap today as readings once again soar into the 103 to 107 degree range. The main center of upper level high pressure is over northern Baja this morning with a ridge extending northward into the Pacific Northwest. The air above central California is extremely warm with the current freezing level pegged at 16,000 feet. The subsiding nature of high pressure has crushed the marine layer at Monterey all the way down to 300 feet.
Later tonight and Thursday, the high will begin to flatten out over the Pacific Northwest and northern California, allowing very weak ripples of low pressure in the upper atmosphere to move in from the west. No weather will be associated with this change, but most locations by Thursday will observe temperatures back into double digits.
The pattern for the weekend shows weak upper level high pressure just off the California coast with temperatures mainly in the mid to upper 90s through Sunday. Later next week, some models are portraying a trough of low pressure over the interior west with the eastern Pacific high remaining off shore. This would allow generally clear skies to continue over California with fairly seasonal temperatures from mid week next week through the following weekend.
Forecast: Other than some high, thin clouds at times, it will be mostly clear and hot through Thursday. Mostly clear and less hot Friday through Wednesday.

Two Week Outlook: June 18 through June 24: The summertime ridge of upper level high pressure is projected to be over and along the eastern Pacific during this time frame. It will bring with it above average temperatures while dampening any chance of precipitation.
June: The first month of meteorological summer indicates temperatures will only be marginally above average over northern and central California. In other words, patterns for early summer should be fairly typical. The usual generally dry conditions will prevail.
June, July, August: If this model has any grip at all on the pattern for summer of 2019, it is the fact that it will be a hot one, even hotter than usual. As a more persistent ridge remains over the west and lower pressure over the middle of the country the usual generally dry conditions will prevail.
Winds: Winds will be generally at or below 15 MPH through Saturday.
Rain: Expect dry conditions for at least the next seven to ten days.
