Forecast

June 16, 2020/report

June 15, 2020

Summary: Once again, the valley is pooling with modified marine air which will lower our temperatures back into the mid 80s this afternoon.  an area of low pressure continues to move through the Pacific Northwest and it will move into the interior west tonight and Tuesday.  Currently, there is a ten millibar difference in pressure between San Francisco and Las Vegas.  This is not horribly strong, but it’s certainly enough for above average wind conditions today, especially along the west side where winds funnel below the passes along the Coast Range.

Beginning Thursday, upper level high pressure over the eastern Pacific will build inland over California, resulting in a significant warming trend.  As early as Friday, warmest locations will be toying with the century mark with widespread triple digits anticipated this weekend and early next week.  Well off the southern California coast, a cut off low will develop which initially will have no impact on our weather.  However, some models show it moving towards the central and northern California coast later next week, possibly making it the catalyst for our next cooling trend.

Forecast: Clear skies through Saturday.  Mostly clear Saturday night through Tuesday.

Two Week Outlook: June 22 through June 28:  This model indicates upper level high pressure over the eastern Pacific extending through California will result in somewhat above average temperatures with dry conditions prevailing.

June:  The month of June brings us into the dry season for central California.  The chance of rain during the month will be very low on any given day.  This model indicates we can expect above average temperatures for the month.

June, July, August:  What can you say about the summer months in the valley except it will be hot and dry.  Of course, this summer will be no exception.  Precipitation will be near average, which is next to none.  This model indicates the next three months will have above average temperatures, but what else is new?

Winds Discussion: Winds through early this evening will be mainly out of the northwest at 10 to 15 MPH.  Gusts to 25 MPH can be expected along the west side.  Later tonight through Friday, winds will be mainly out of the northwest afternoons and evenings at 5 to 12 MPH.  Winds during the night and early morning hours will be generally light and variable.

Rain Discussion: Expect dry conditions for the next 7 to 10 days.
