Summary: Typical valley heat will be with us for at least the next week. We may see minimal moderation in parts of Merced County due to a minor leakage of modified marine air moving through Pacheco Pass. As of 6:00am, Pacheco Pass was reporting winds out of the southwest at 13 MPH while up in the Delta winds were out of the southwest at 18 MPH. however, a strong high center has shifted further west over Arizona and is now linking up with another high off the southern California coast. Central California will be on the far northwest flank of this system with widespread triple digits.
The high will not move much, at least through Saturday. inland sections of southern California will bake under extreme heat over the lower deserts. The winds aloft are out of the south/southwest which will maintain cloudless skies for the foreseeable future.
Forecast: clear and hot through Friday. Mostly clear and hot Friday night through Tuesday.

Two Week Outlook: August 3 through August 9: Upper level high pressure will be entrenched over the Desert Southwest. The monsoon will be active over Arizona and possibly even into southern California. Temperatures under this regime will run marginally above average with no rain expected.
August: Typically, especially this time of year, long range outlooks by NOAA reflect the global warming madness. This model indicates above average temperatures and largely dry conditions.
August, September, October: Just like the 30 day outlook, this longer range outlook reflects above average temperatures everywhere, including California. This model does not reflect either above or below average precipitation, although as we head into September we will have to keep a closer eye on the tropics.
Winds Discussion: Winds through this evening will be mainly out of the northwest at 8 to 15 MPH with stronger gusts, mainly along the west side. Winds Wednesday through Friday will be mainly out of the northwest afternoons and evenings at 5 to 12 MPH, becoming light and variable during the overnight hours.
Rain Discussion: Expect dry conditions for the next 7 to 10 days.
