September 9, 2020
Summary: A rather vigorous low pressure system is located near the Utah/Arizona border. In part, this system has created a strong off shore flow. Even though the off shore winds are not affecting the valley, much drier air is settling in. dew points are anywhere from 7 to 13 degrees lower than 24 hours ago north of Kern County. Bakersfield has seen the dewpoint fall 32 degrees over the past 24 hours. Meadows Field was reporting relative humidity at 11% as of 6:00am.
The low to our east will begin to pull off towards the east Friday. This will allow a ridge of fairly weak high pressure to build over California. Temperatures will respond accordingly, however there is no significant heat wave on the horizon. The valley will continue to be blanketed with areas of smoke indefinitely due to the big fires along the Sierra Nevada.
A trough of low pressure will move into the Pacific Northwest Monday and Tuesday. Some models indicate that extreme northern California could pick up some showers with this system. The only affect on central California will be cooler temperatures.
Forecast: Mostly clear through Saturday. Mostly clear Sunday through Wednesday.
