Summary: The fog and low clouds, as of 1:30 this afternoon, had melted away from south to north as far north as roughly a Hanford/Visalia line. The 1:00pm observations at Lemoore and Hanford indicated a temperature of 48 and 49, respectively. Bakersfield reported a balmy 59, basking in the hazy sunshine.
The weak trough of low pressure that raced through northern California early this morning is now moving through eastern Nevada and will soon be trekking over the Rocky Mountains. A sharp ridge of upper level high pressure will begin to build into California tonight. this same high will build as far north as western Canada Saturday. weak surface high pressure will also take shape over the Great Basin, resulting in a weak off shore flow.
The upper high will break down over the Pacific Northwest Sunday night and Monday, allowing the storm track to migrate back to the Pacific Northwest. However, there will be no impact over California.
Beginning Tuesday, models show a strong and persistent high building off the California coast which will eventually cover the western U.S. The bottom line is, beginning tomorrow and lasting for at least a week to ten days, the main weather challenge will be extensive night and morning fog and low clouds with clearing in the afternoons. It’s possible some locations may not clear at all, however. As a result, both highs and lows could potentially vary widely, depending upon the clearing pattern at any particular location.
Forecast: Mostly clear skies tonight through Monday with widespread fog and low clouds nights and mornings. Clearing in some areas during the afternoons. Widespread fog and low clouds can be expected Monday night through Friday with partial afternoon clearing each day.
