Forecast

February 4, 2022/afternoon report

February 4, 2022

Temperatures this afternoon are already in the low to mid 60s, which is generally 5 to  7 degrees warmer than 24 hours ago. Overall, a dome of upper level high pressure remains over the eastern Pacific and much of the western 1/3 of the US. There is a weak upper low west/southwest of San Diego which will have no impact on our weather. It will, however, turn the winds aloft out of the northeast and eventually will move inland over northern Mexico. The upper high will build further north once we get into the Monday-Wednesday time frame and will center off the coast of the Pacific Northwest. With strong upper level high pressure aloft, temperatures will slowly rise each day with readings pushing 70 in the warmer locations as early as Sunday and over the remainder of the area Monday through Wednesday. Medium range models show the blocking ridge pattern remaining in place for at least the next 7 to 10 days.

Forecast: Mostly clear skies through Monday night. Mostly clear Tuesday through Friday.

Wind Discussion: Winds will be generally at or less than 7 MPH with periods of near calm conditions through Monday.

Rain:  Expect dry weather for at least the next 7 to 10 days.

Frost: temperatures this afternoon have warmed a great deal from what they were yesterday at this time with most locations already in the low to mid 60s. Dew points, ,however, have not followed suit and remain generally in the low to mid 30s north of Kern County and in the upper 20s to lower 30s in Kern County. With a significant warm up this afternoon, I would look for most locations to run 1 or 2 degrees warmer than last night. Most locations will remain in the low to mid 30s with isolated pockets briefly in the upper 20s. The inversion tonight will be strong with temperatures at 34 feet running 4 to 8 degrees warmer at most locations. As high pressure continues to strengthen, daytime highs will warm into the upper 60s to the lower 70s. this will continue to drag overnight lows up, incrementally, beginning Monday morning.
