Forecast

February 5, 2022/afternoon report

The weather over the next week to ten days will push the almonds into bloom and, shortly thereafter, apricots and peaches. Strong upper level high pressure remains anchored roughly 600 miles off the central coast. The only other feature is a weak upper low located about 350 miles to the southwest of San Diego. As we move through next week, the center of the high will expand eastward and northward, eventually encompassing not only California, but the Pacific Northwest and western Canada. Picture it as a huge dome in the atmosphere with descending air which heats by compression, resulting in well above average temperatures. I still feel we will crack the 70 degree mark Sunday followed by a string of days in the upper 60s to even the mid 70s. Spring is literally preparing to bust out all over. Medium range models this afternoon just show variations of the same theme: a blocking ridge over the eastern Pacific covering the western 1/3 of the US while cold air dives southward into the middle of the country and points eastward.

Forecast: Mostly clear skies through Tuesday. Mostly clear skies will continue Tuesday night through Saturday.

Wind Discussion: Winds will be generally at or less than 7 MPH with periods of near calm conditions through Monday.

Rain:  Expect dry weather for at least the next 7 to 10 days.

Frost: Most locations tonight will nudge up one or two degrees over last night and will generally range from 30 to 38 degrees. The coldest frog pond type locations will dip down to 32 with hillsides above freezing. This will be pretty much the order of the day through Monday. From Tuesday morning on, only the very coldest portions of real estate will dip down into the low to mid 30s as daytime highs move into the low to mid 70s.  Still nothing showing up longer term that would result in a cold pattern.
