Now that it’s autumn on the calendar, it’s still summer on the weather map as a massive upper level high covers the western states and much of the eastern Pacific. Models show this to be a persistent feature with readings in the mid to upper 90s today through next Thursday. With some luck, the high will weaken some late next week, lowering temperatures into the lower 90s. The marine layer along the coast is only 400 feet deep. Winds through Pacheco Pass are pretty much nonexistent. At the surface, there’s a weak off shore flow. For example, the current altimeter reading at Salt Lake City is 30.25 inches of mercury while Fresno has a reading of 29.97. This weak off shore flow will cause weak downslope heating. Hottest locations could tease with the century mark through at least Wednesday. The monsoon will affect southeast California later next week. however, none of the subtropical juice will affect central California. With this in mind, we can expect dry weather more than likely through the first week of October.

October: This model is really a flip of the coin as far as precipitation is concerned and shows no real bias for above or below average rainfall. It does indicate somewhat above average temperatures will continue.
October, November, December: This model definitely has a bias for above average temperatures for the next 90 days. It also points to above average rainfall for northern California with below average precipitation for southern California. With that in mind, that gives California near average precipitation.
Wind Discussion: Winds during the late morning through the early morning hours will be variable to no more than 12 mph. winds during the night and early morning hours will be generally at or less than 5 mph with periods of near calm conditions through Tuesday.
Rain: Expect dry conditions for at least the next 7 to 10 days.
Frost: All locations will be above freezing tonight and each night for the foreseeable future.
