Forecast

December 11, 2022 afternoon report

December 11, 2022

The precipitation pattern this afternoon has definitely been more scattered than the previous 24 hours. Forecast models show one more band of energy moving onshore tonight before we can finally put this one to bed. Most locations on the valley floor north of Kern County have recorded anywhere from .75 to 1.50 inches of rain. All in all, a decent dent in the drought situation. Models show the center of circulation to be in the Rocky Mountain region by Monday evening while a ridge of upper level high pressure stretches from southwest to northeast into British Columbia. This will set up a northerly flow over California which will set the stage for some chilly mornings coming up later this week. as a northerly flow is squeezed between the off shore high and the exiting low.

For the last four or five days now, we’ve been looking at upper 20s and lower 30s for averages beginning Tuesday morning but more so Wednesday and Thursday. Models continue to indicate the formation of a closed low off the coast of the Pacific Northwest beginning Thursday and show it moving southward still well off the California coast. From there, they show it possibly moving inland over southern California this weekend for a minimal chance of showers this coming Saturday and Sunday.

Forecast: Periods of showers tonight, ending around sunrise Monday. partly to mostly cloudy Monday and Monday night. Becoming mostly clear Tuesday through Friday with increasing amounts of night and morning fog and low clouds. Partly cloudy Saturday through Sunday with a slight chance of showers.

Temperatures: Lows tonight will range from 36 to 41. Highs Monday and Tuesday will range in the low to mid 50s. Lows Tuesday morning will range from 28 to 33.

Next report: December 12 morning
