Summary: Near average conditions will prevail for the remainder of the week. We remain sandwiched between upper level high pressure centered over the Texas panhandle and a trough of low pressure along the Pacific coast. The low’s center is just west of British Columbia.
The winds aloft continue to be out of the southwest. As a result, skies will continue to be clear to mostly clear. The most northwest the monsoon is accepted to be is into southeast California and even that will be nudged back into Arizona by this evening.
As is typically the case for the first week in August, hot weather cannot be far behind. That high over Texas will shift to the west to a position over the Four Corners region over the weekend with California on its western periphery. The main impact of this change will be triple digit temperatures beginning Sunday and lasting into the middle of next week.
The clockwise rotation around the high will also transport monsoonal moisture northward for daily chances of isolated thunderstorms over the southern Sierra Nevada beginning Monday. Occasional mid and high level clouds will be over the valley floor.
Some models show the high moving to the east again beginning Thursday of next week while others show it maintaining its position. At any rate, typical summer conditions will continue for the next week to ten days.
Forecast: Mostly clear through Saturday. mostly clear and hot Sunday. Mostly clear to occasionally partly cloudy Sunday night through Wednesday and continued hot.

Two Week Outlook: August 7 through August13: This model shows central California sandwiched between a trough of low pressure off shore and upper level high pressure over the Desert Southwest which is typical for early August. This will result in near average temperatures and dry conditions through mid August.
August: This model projects fairly persistent upper level high pressure over the Desert Southwest. The monsoon shows up, as it typically does this time of year, but it generally produces little to no precipitation over the valley. The bottom line, temperatures will be marginally above average with typically dry conditions.
August, September, October: The 90 day outlook doesn’t really give strong indicators one way or the other. As far as precipitation is concerned, this model is projecting near average totals for the next three months. This model also projects above average temperatures for much of the western U.S.
Winds: Winds will be mainly out of the northwest at 5 to 15 MPH afternoons and evenings with local gusts to near 20 possible. Winds during the night and morning hours will be generally less than 10 MPH with periods of near calm conditions.
Rain: Expect dry conditions for the next week to ten days.
