It is hard to believe that the possible hottest days of what has been a hot summer are still ahead. Model information this morning is consistent in putting out readings near 110 at the hottest locations beginning Thursday and lasting through at least the Labor Day weekend. Blended model information spits out a reading of 107 for Porterville as early as Thursday. Today will begin a prolonged period of very hot weather which could last through at least the middle of next week. for now, the flow aloft is weak and out of the southwest, so no monsoonal moisture will sneak in during the shorter term. By Friday, the clockwise flow around high pressure located over Nevada may allow a minimal amount of monsoonal moisture to work its way into central California, however thunderstorm activity over the Sierra appears doubtful as the atmosphere will remain capped. The GFS model indicates at least one tropical system will work its way northward along the Baja coast next week. for now, though, I don’t see any concern. So far, it’s been a very quiet hurricane season both on the Atlantic and Pacific side. Just as a matter of record, the traditional peak of the hurricane season is September 12.
Forecast: Mostly clear and hot through Thursday. Mostly clear and extremely hot Friday through Tuesday.

Two Week Outlook: September 5 through September 11: This model continues to show hot weather for California. It also indicates the monsoon will be active, occasionally moving into California for chances of mountain storms and valley clouds.
August: This model is quite generic, indicating the same trend of high pressure resulting in generally above average temperatures for the month of August. Precipitation will be near average, which means very little to none. This model continues to show an active monsoon over the west which may visit California from time to time.
August, September, October: Upper level high pressure will be more dominant over the next few months, resulting in somewhat above average temperatures. This year’s monsoon, which has been an active one so far, will result in a continuation of above average precipitation over the Desert Southwest and possibly the Sierra Nevada.

Rain: Expect dry weather indefinitely.
