October 25, 2023 report

October 25, 2023

Summary  Currently,, a low center is parked over northwest Oregon this morning while a flat zone of high pressure stretches over central and southern California. The low over Oregon will dive into the Great Basin Thursday. A trough of low pressure will develop behind this system from Hudson Bay, Canada southwestward clear into California. By Friday, a narrow ridge of high pressure aloft will build into the Gulf of Alaska with a northeast to southwest flow continuing into southern California. This will set the stage for a robust off shore flow over the weekend, allowing dry air to infiltrate the valley. Strong radiational cooling will set up, allowing temperatures to drop into the mid to upper 30s in many locations with a chance of lower 30s in those cold spots Saturday through Tuesday. Daytime temperatures will be near average today then fall below average Thursday through Sunday. Even so, temperatures will struggle to above average Sunday through Monday with mid to upper  70s returning Tuesday through Wednesday of next week. Medium range models for the first week in November indicate an active pattern for the Pacific Northwest and northern California with central and southern California remaining dry.

Forecast  Other than occasional cloudiness, it will remain mostly clear through Thursday. Mostly clear to occasionally partly cloudy Thursday night through Saturday night. Mostly clear Sunday through Wednesday.
